We tell you what to keep, add or swap out from your wardrobe for the warmer months ahead.
The time between Spring and Summer is extremely changeable. One minute it’s sunny, the next torrential rain.So as it heats, then cools, then heats up again we need to put together outfits that can work for the unknown and notoriously difficult in-between season. And while there is a certain art to transeasonal dressing, it’s not hard to achieve if you dive into your wardrobe and work out what’s needed (or more importantly – what isn’t!) Here are our five styling tips that will help you navigate dressing for the changing season ahead and keep you looking stylish – no matter the weather.
1. FIND A SEASONAL PRINT:
One of the best ways to keep your wardrobe current is to purchase a printed shirt or blouse. Some may think a printed blouse is limiting but in reality it can be worn with almost any plain pant/skirt combination. Added to that it also provides a pop of colour and a light coverage on your arms for days when the weather is still a little cool. To get the most out of it hunt for one where the sleeves can be easily rolled up for warmer weather ahead or choose a collared option which allows you to easily layer a white t-shirt underneath, keeping any spring chill at bay.For added versatility go for an oversized button down option that can be doubled as extra coverage over your swimsuit at the beach.
Try: Loobies Story Tequila Sunrise Shirt
2. WORK WITH LAYERS
Everyone talks about layering – and although it sounds like an easy solution there is a lot more you can do with layers than simply adding a jumper. Start by going through your existing wardrobe and look for buildable basics such as blouses, camisoles, maxi-dresses and skirts. These items all transition effortlessly between warm and cool days with the simple addition of something underneath or over the top. Try a t-shirt under a maxi dress or alternatively a shirt tied up over top of one. The simple shirt also looks great undone over a camisole.
3. INVEST IN A JACKET:
It may seem like a strange concept to need a jacket as we head into Summer, but as we know even on the hottest day once the sun goes down it gets chilly. While most of us have several winter coats, most are too heavy for the warming weather which is why investing in a lightweight jacket makes sense. Our pick?A duster coat, linen blazer, lightweight jacket or of course, a great fitting denim jacket.
Try: Loobies Story Coast Khaki Jacket or Laguna Jean Jacket
4. KEEP YOUR DENIM:
Denim is the cornerstone for many a wardrobe and there’s a reason why – it’s extremely versatile and goes with almost everything. Blue denim is always a classic but this year it might be time to give white denim a try. Not only will it instantly freshen up your look, it is perfect when paired with a crisp white shirt and it’s also a staple neutral colour to team with a vibrant print or patterned top. On top of that a white jean will also work to dress up all your printed blouses and tops. If you don’t think you can do white denim just yet, a nice twist on traditional blue denim is our Kona Jean or short which has a strip of colorful embroidery running down the leg which picks up all the colors in our seasonal prints.
Try: Loobies Story Waikiki Jean in White.
5. SWAP OUT THE BOOTS:
Swap your boots for some something a little more summery like a pair of espadrilles. These are perhaps the shoe of the season and for good reason. They’re a comfortable, they give you additional height, and their canvas fabric is lightweight for the warmer weather. For a more casual look a classic pair of white trainers will go with just about anything!
Try: Superga have the ultimate selection in classic trainers. Their Cotu Classic is always a good pick or if you’re looking for a bit of height, their 2730 Cotropew is a flatform with the added benefit of beachy rope detailing for a summery twist.
